Ruffled Paper Streamers

Hellooo!  Keisha here from Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams!  Today I am happy to share two great ways you can use crepe paper streamers to create an eye-catching backdrop for your child’s next bash!

A few months back I threw both of my kids separate parties for their birthdays, which are just about 25 days apart.  For all my parties, I love setting up a fun dessert table with cupcakes or cakes as the highlight of the table, but what really catches everyone’s eye is the backdrop!  Normally, I find a fun length of fabric and attach it to my wall, but this year, I wanted to do something different.  So, I went back to an classic party staple – paper streamers. Instead of draping them across the room in a twisted fashion, I instead hung them from floor to ceiling.

Since my daughter is super girly, I kinda got very dramatic with the streamers and put my ‘trusty’ (hardly used) sewing machine to work and created ruffled streamers for her Monster High Inspired Spa Party.  By combining the streamers with another bold black and white striped streamer, I created a really funky backdrop for the dessert tables I set up for her party!  (Yes, tables, we started out with real desserts and broke it down and set up another one with fake ‘soap’ desserts.)  I hung a few tissue paper honeycomb globes for extra dimension and the end result was a very beautiful and awesome backdrop!

My son is Ninja Turtle crazy and he told me that he wanted a ‘real cool’ Ninja Turtle Party.  I got so much feedback about the streamers backdrop for my daughter’s party; I figured that it would make complete sense to try it again….sans the ruffles.  I didn’t get as elaborate with the use of streamers for the backdrop for his party – I mean, he’s all boy, after all.  I did however work in the color range that I used for the overall theme, blue, light blue, green and bright green.  I randomly placed the streamers along the length of the wall not really trying to create a perfect pattern.  I also use a LOT of streamers, because I wanted to conceal as much of my (bleh) tan/green wall as possible.

After all the streamers were hung, I attached a banner that I created and also used a few balloons to make the display a bit more festive.  To present the treats, the table was set up using cake plates, wooden crates and a few Styrofoam blocks that I wrapped with color coordinating gift wrap.  I’m not big on licensed party-ware, so I incorporated a lot of my son’s Ninja Turtle figures to tie everything together.  In his eyes, and mine, this party was ‘TOTALLY AWESOME, DUDE!’

There are so many different ways to decorate with paper streamers for parties; the possibilities are truly endless.  Just use a bit of creativity, a good step ladder and strong tape! ;)  If you’d like to learn how to make your own ruffled crepe paper streamers you can check out my crepe paper streamers how-to here.
