I just love Pinterest. Check out my Thanksgiving inspiration board here. It has a lot of fall inspired breakfast ideas. My one gripe about Pinterest WAS that everyone could see what I was thinking. So, if I wanted to do a dinosaur party, for example, anyone that went on my Dinosaur party board would be able to see the party inspiration before the party happened or if I wanted to save gift ideas the receipents could possibly see those too. Well, today, I saw that you can now create up to 3 private pinterest boards. Problem solved. Lovin’ Pinterest even more.

Pretty Perfect- Halloween Edition

I wanted to share some amazing Halloween inspiration from around the web today.

Halloween by Loralee Lewis-

For those of you who don’t know, Loralee Lewis is an amazing party stylist and graphic artist. Her biggest client- President Obama! I found this image on Pinterest. This party is party demonstrates why she is so well respected. Simply stunning take on something lots of people have tried. Make sure to hop over and check it out.

Vintage Zombie Party from HWTM- I love the use of mutted earth tones and green for this Halloween party. I have seen a few Halloween parties this year with this color scheme and I am lovin’ the trend.

My utmost favorite of all of these pins are these adorable bunny sugar cookies made out of egg shaped cookies made by Just Crumbs. ADORABLE! I am definitely going to try to make these for my dessert table this Sunday!

Party Planning 101- part 3

Back to the planning!
Once you know the theme and have decided upon the colors and general feel you want for the party, you can can move to the next steps- research, brain storming and making a party checklist.

Research-
Thank goodness for the web. There is amazing inspiration everywhere. Don’t limit your research to parties with the same theme. Look at parties you like. Take the inspiration from them and adapt it to fit your party. For example, if you see a dessert table you love, it will most likely be very easy to you the same layout and possibly even similar dessert at your party. What do you do to organize all this research- pin it of course! I’m not sure what I did before Pinterest. Here is my Pinterest board for Charlotte’s Apple of My Eye Party.

Brainstorming-

This is the messy party. In a notebook, I just write down every idea I have for the party including guest list, ideas for crafts and food, phrases and words that relate to the theme that I could possibly use for labeling and even a rough sketch of the dessert table. Here are my messy notes for Charlotte’s party. Obviously, I don’t even worry about penmanship or neatness.

Checklist-

Then, I use my brainstorming notes to make a party checklist/to do list. I always start with the guest list and then list the areas/tables at the party (dessert station, craft table, beverage table, etc.) Then, I separate out each of these areas and list all of the things I need for them- supplies, printables, etc. As I complete each item, I change the font color. It helps to me feel good when actually see that I am making progress. I always use black for initial list, then another color for in progress (pink) and a third color for totally complete (green). When the party favor is made and wrapped I change the guest name. This list is actually always changing as the party prep progresses. Usually I have to delete some of the food or desserts that I have planned simple because I have to much.

Over the top, crazy organized? I would agree but after I spent the entire duration of my daughter’s first birthday in the kitchen chopping and prepping food, I promised myself that I would always be completely done with a party by the time it started and I have been. I never choose foods or activities that require a lot of last minute work. I was really sad that I missed celebrating with her. That is what a party is all about.

Rainbows

Are you ready to celebrate the next holiday yet? St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to use some of the rainbow inspiration that’s out there on the web, especially if green is not your favorite color (like me). Kids love the magic that rainbows and little leprechauns hold. Check out some of my favorite rainbow inspirations from Pinterest.

If you decide to do a rainbow party, try to stick to big blocks of color rather than everything being multi colored stripes.

It creates a cleaner, fresher look. Also, if the traditional rainbow is too bright for you, switch it up- use more of a pastel color scheme.

Make It Monday- Pinterest Board

Happy 2012. One of my goals last year was to learn about Pinterest. I signed up over the summer but kept putting it off because I thought it would be to difficult to learn. I was so wrong. I have spent the last few weeks on the site and absolutely love it. I’m sure most of you are familiar with it, but just in case, it is an amazing source of photos and information on nearly every subject. When you see an image you like from anywhere on the web, you simple pin it to one of your boards. It is such a convenient way to keep ideas organized. No more ripping and tearing out of magazines. The photo you pin will also take you back to the original source. Here’s a board I already did for my Christmas party in 2012. There’s so much fun inspiration that its hard to stop.
