Hi Everyone!  I had the most JOYous time last week.  Target was carrying the newly released Inside Out DVD/Blu-Ray and I immediately wanted to host a movie night for my kids and their friends.  I originally saw Inside Out with my oldest daughter last summer.  It is really one of my favorites.  I loved how this movie reminded me as a mama to create memories with my children.  The movie is such a sweet reminder of how fast those sweet childhood memories can disappear.

Setting up an Inside Out Party is pretty simple as far as party themes go.  The colors of the character determined my color scheme- red, yellow, blue, purple and green- pretty much rainbow without the orange.  Make sure you add lots of white to the party to keep the colors from becoming overwhelming.  The memories in the film are represented by ball so balls and circles played a huge role in my set up and dessert choices.  You will see both rainbows and spheres repeated on the dessert table.

Thank goodness for Target.  Not only did I buy the Inside Out DVD at Target but I was able to buy almost everything I needed for this fun movie night while I was there.  Target is the perfect one-stop-shop and for busy moms. Don’t over work yourselves.

Making the garland on the front of the table and the backdrop was fairly simple you just need various sizes or circles in the five party colors.  I was able to but a pack of construction paper at Target.

To make the garland:

Cut out enough circles to span the front of your table.  Punch to holes on each side of the circle and string together with twine or ribbon

To make the backdrop:

Find a board the width of your table and paint white  or cover it in white wrapping paper.  Cut out various sizes or circle and arrange on board.  I used a cutting matching to cut the emotion words (joy, fear, disgust, anger and sadness) out of each circle but you could also create the same effect with alphabet stickers. inside out

DESSERT TABLE:

For my dessert, I grabbed almost all of the ingredients at Target to make white chocolate covered cookie sandwiches, Jell-o cups in each of the colors, popcorn mixed with colorful puffed cereal balls, sugar dipped marshmallow pops, Inside Out Cupcakes and Inside Out Rice Cereal Bars.

To make the Inside Out Cupcakes:

Bake your favorite vanilla cupcakes. Once cooled, using a melon scoop to scoop out the center of the cake fill the hole almost to the top with sprinkles in one of the emotion colors. replace the top portion of the cake that you scooped out and frost with you favorite butter cream.  Decorate the cupcake with My Kitchen Sour Rainbow strips found in the candy section at Target.  When the kids bite into the cupcakes the will get an “emotion” surprise.  They loved discovering which cupcake the chose.

Our favorite dessert was the Inside Out Cereal Bars.  They take just a few minutes to make and the kids love them.

Inside Out Rice Cereal Bars:

  • 2 cups colorful round puffed cereal
  • 16 ounces Market Pantry mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 bag Market Pantry white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Directions

  • Melt margarine in large pot.  Add marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth.
  •  Remove from heat and add in both cereals.
  • Spread in 9×13 greased pan and press down using waxed paper until compact. Let set in refrigerator.
  •  When cool, microwave white chocolate chips and oil in the microwave until smooth stirring every 20 seconds.  Do not over heat.  Depending on your microwave this should take between 1 1/2 and 2 minutes.
  •  Cut cereal bars into rectangles.
  • Dip half of the bars in the chocolate and set on parchment paper or cooling rack.
  • Once all the bars have been dipped, put the rest of the chocolate in a plastic baggie with the tip cut off or piping bag. Drizzle over the chocolate portion of each bar.

After the dessert table was set, I added a few fun Inside Out details that I also found at Target- blankets, stuffed dolls, and a little Joy for the dessert table.  My daughter also insisted on getting an Inside Out T-shirt.  We also picked up several Inside Out Books for party favors.  I love encouraging reading whenever I can!!!

The movie night was so fun!  The kids had a fantastic time.  We were all so excited to view 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes found on all Inside Out DVDs and Blu-Rays purchased at Target include.  That was a great surprise.  It was certainly a night of joyous memories.
