This week marks the start of college football season and over at our house, we’re gearing up to kick things off in a big way – Go Utes!
While the house isn’t dressed up quite like it is during the holidays, I do like to add a few small touches here and there at the start of football season.
Last year, I created a quick printable football paper chain that’s been pinned on Pinterest more than 500,o00 times. It was such a success, I thought I’d come up with another simple football banner that could be paired with it or displayed on its own.
The thing that I love most about this banner is that it’s super inexpensive to create and only takes about 10 minutes to put together.
For this project, you will need two sheets of kraft or brown colored cardstock, a banner template, scissors, a white marker and some baker’s twine or ribbon.
One of my MOST USED craft tools is this great banner punch board made by We R Memory Keepers. I use it over and over. Not only can you create banners of nearly every size, it actually creates a couple different shapes as well.
If you don’t have the punch board and aren’t interested in picking one up, you could simply create a template and trace your triangles on the cardstock.
I wanted something fairly small and minimalistic to pair with the paper chain banner, so I went with a four inch banner. I cut two dozen flags out of two sheets of brown cardstock.
Once my flags were all cut out, I used the hole punch on my punch board to create evenly spaced holes that I could run string through to hang the banner.
To create the “laces” on my brown paper flags, I could have used a white marker, paint or even tape. However, I wanted a softer chalky look. I used American Crafts permanent chalk marker (you can find these in most craft stores and in Target on the craft isle) to create the football look.
To hang the banner I simply wove a bit of brown and white baker’s twine through the holes and adhered it to the wall with a bit of gold washi tape.
The great thing about washi is that it will easily hold a light weight banner like this one, but it won’t mar the paint on your wall!
